who is julie?
I am a practitioner of Asian Bodywork, a visual artist, and enjoyer of creativity, living and working in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
In addition to my time in the bodywork office and the art studio, I also spend part of my week managing Blooma Prenatal and Postnatal wellness center in the Edina/Linden Hills area, which indulges my passion for empowering women.
In the Asian Bodywork part of my world, I completed over 800 hours of training in Western anatomy and physiology; Shiatsu & Chinese medicine theory and techniques; cupping therapy; Thai Yoga Bodywork; Qi Gong energy healing; Reiki and Tibetan massage. My training includes the expertise of the teachers at Centerpoint School in Minneapolis, Master Chunyi Lin in the western suburbs, the Lotus Palm School of Montreal, and a small Tibetan Massage study center in Mcleod Ganj, India. I’ve yet to make it to Thailand, but it’s very near the top of my travel list! I am a certified Shiatsu practitioner through the AOBTA.
I received my birth doula certification in 2007, and attended the DONA International Conference in St. Louis. Though I am not currently working as a doula, I am always willing to share resources and direct women and couples to many of the great resources we have here in the Twin Cities for birthing.
Prior to all of that, I was lucky enough to spend
- 4 years learning about and making art at the University of Minnesota;
- 8 months living in China with my husband, Sean;
- a year serving as an AmeriCorps Volunteer at In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theater; and
- two years working with students with emotional and behavioral disorders in a high school.
I gather all my experiences and observations—from growing up as the youngest of five children, to living in a cooperative household in college, traveling in Europe and Asia, working and studying in various settings…to the table or the mat or the art studio, as I explore, respect, and honor the complexities and subtleties and sometimes the simplicities of our human experience.
I live in South Minneapolis with my husband and our very funny dog, with the Mississippi River gorge nearby as an additional source of inspiration. I enjoy continually learning, developing my practice and my understanding of caring for the human being.
