TCM in shanghai update
Last week Sean was out running errands (actually buying a book stand with Mickey Mouse on it) and he stopped into a TCM clinic to check it out, since he’s been thinking about trying out a Chinese Medicine doctor here. He was able to see a doctor immediately.
He filled out some minimal paperwork (name, phone number, etc.), and then went into a little room to see the doctor.
The doctor looked at his tongue and pulse and asked what his complaints were. He told Sean the TCM outlook on his symptoms and how they possibly developed through his life. He asked if Sean might have a couple related symptoms. Sean said he did. The doctor summarized his TCM diagnosis and sent him out to the herbal pharmacy.
The pharmacist told him he could take the packet of prescribed herbs home and boil them himself, or for a small fee (17¥) they would do it for him, and he could return the next day. He chose the latter, and below he is pictured with the mixture. He says it didn’t taste bad at all–”a little bit sweet, a little bit funky.”
Have you taken Chinese herbs, or been to a doctor in a foreign country?
